Lake Vermilion State Park is one of Minnesota’s newest state parks. As such, some trails may not be marked or well-developed, so exercise caution when exploring unmarked paths. There are many hiking trails to choose from. Be sure to grab a map at the Visitor Center. The Hiking Club trail spans five miles, beginning at the Visitor Center and continuing past the Soudan Iron Formation, wooded areas and along the rim of the old open mine pits.

8. Kawishiwi Falls Trail

Embark on an easy one-mile hike to Kawishiwi Falls, a picturesque waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. The short hike rewards visitors with a refreshing natural oasis and opportunities for stunning photographs.

9. Bass Lake Trail

This is a popular trail for backpacking, birding, and hiking. For  a shorter hike, take the trail to Dry Falls and swim in the pool.

The entire trail offers a variety of scenery, including lakes, tree canopy, and vegetation. The trail also has various terrains, such as rocks, flat, steep, and mud in spots. 

10. Giants Ridge Recreation Area
